This document describes the system requirements of the HAPTEX platform and its architectural design. In addition to giving an overview of the entire HAPTEX pipeline, this deliverable contains the specification of the HAPTEX use cases, the definition of the functional blocks of the multimodal framework as well as the interrelationship between functional blocks and the definition of the respective interfaces between them.

 

The textile simulation method offers accurate real-time simulation of the nonlinear anisotropic viscoelastic properties of cloth materials. It is used in large-scale simulation of full cloth objects in the context of haptic applications. It combines access to simulation data (particle position, velocity, force and Jacobian) for interfacing with the haptic simulation framework, and collision detection query procedures (detection of cloth mesh elements in proximity of given locations).
The major challenge in the development of this module is to find the best compromise between the high requirement for mechanical accuracy (quantitative accuracy with anisotropic nonlinear strain-stress behavior) and the drastic performance requirements of real-time and interactive applications.

 

The physical simulation framework of the HAPTEX project handles the real-time simulation of the piece of textile and its visualization. This deliverable describes all components of the visual representation of the global cloth . The focus of this layer is to define the large-scale behaviour of the textile, in contrast to the small-scale behaviour, which is linked to the haptic rendering of the textile and is described in the HAPTEX deliverables in work package 2. The core textile simulation method addressing the large-scale simulation has been described by the HAPTEX Deliverable D1.2. This document adds to the core components additional features for improving the physical and the visual accuracy: a bending model and a real-time textile shaders module.

 

This document describes the test methods to produce a database with physical data on parameters that influence fabric hand and drape. Objectively measured physical parameters are needed for sensing of fabric through virtual experience. Measurements are performed with Kawabata evaluation system for fabrics (KES-F). Also tensile testing is used to investigate fabric deformations with small forces. The complete set of measured data is available from the Project Coordinator (see "Contact") on request.

 

This document is a progress report and it presents the test results of the second set of fabrics that have been measured using Kawabata Evaluation System for fabrics (KES-F) and tensile tester. Also some non-standard measurements of surface properties have been made using different sensor material in friction measurement and different shape sensor head in roughness measurements. The results are analysed further per sample and the hand properties of the fabrics are compared to each other. The complete set of measured data is availablefrom the Project Coordinator (see "Contact") on request.

 

This document is the final report of WP3 (Measurement of the textile properties and protocol definition) of the HAPTEX project. It presents the test results of the third set of fabrics. The complete set of measured data is available from the Project Coordinator (see "Contact") on request .

 

 

 

This document reports the integration of the separate components of the HAPTEX System into the Whole Haptic Interface.
